Miles For Smiles brings dental care directly to schools through a state-of-the-art mobile dental unit. Instead of asking families to travel to a dental office during the school day, our team provides care in a familiar school setting where students already feel safe and supported. This school-based model helps make dental visits easier for parents, more convenient for schools and more accessible for children who need care.
Our goal is to create a positive experience that encourages students to learn about their oral health and build healthy habits they can continue at home. Schools can call Miles For Smiles in Louisiana or complete the online form to request a visit.
Getting Your School Started
The process is designed to be organized from the beginning. If your school is new to Miles For Smiles, a school contact will schedule a visit date with our team. Before that date, we deliver enrollment forms so the school can send them home with students. Parents or guardians complete and sign the forms, then students return them to the school.
Schools that already work with us will be contacted with available service dates. Teachers may distribute enrollment forms to students, and families can also be directed to enroll online. Once forms are collected, the school's designated contact person can email or call our office to let us know they are ready.
What Happens on Visit Day
On the scheduled day, our dental team arrives at the school and checks in with the designated school contact. Together, we confirm which students are scheduled to be seen in the mobile unit. Our dental staff then provides the needed care in an efficient, student-friendly setting.
The process generally includes:
- Scheduling a school visit date
- Sending enrollment forms home with students
- Collecting signed forms from parents or guardians
- Confirming participating students with the school contact
- Providing dental care on the mobile unit
- Sending each child home with a dental report card
- Giving each child a free toothbrush and toothpaste
Supporting Healthy Smiles Beyond the Visit
Every child receives a dental report card to take home, along with a free toothbrush and toothpaste. This helps parents understand what care was provided and what may be recommended next.
