We will help you protect the enamel of your teeth with fluoride treatments. The fluoride gel or varnish that we apply during your visit will help your teeth resist cavities and slow the rate of existing tooth decay. Fluoride can also be found in your public water supply and many kinds of toothpastes (look for the ADA Seal of Acceptance).

Composite fillings are a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling. Composite fillings provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Composite fillings require a cavity that can be kept clean and dry during filling and they are subject to stain and discoloration over time.

During a routine exam our dental team will take a look at each tooth to evaluate its health. We count teeth, evaluate your bite, look for visual signs of tooth decay and and perform X-rays. During the exam we also discuss lifestyle issues foods, candy, sugary drinks, thumb-sucking, etc. that can contribute to deteriorating oral health. After the exam, we recommend a course of action to correct problems.

A dental X-ray is a digital image of your mouth. Dentists use this image to see through each tooth and surrounding bones, at different angles, to better discover and evaluate problems that are hidden to the the naked eye. Though every visit will not include X-rays, they are an important part of the initial evaluation process.

Sometimes a tooth cannot be treated and must be extracted (removed). Even if a tooth is not broken, decayed or otherwise damaged, it may need to be extracted if it is blocking the path of eruption for an adult tooth. We never remove a tooth without first receiving parental consent.
